By Network
Connect to the University of Houston Optometry network and access the Borish server. Within Borish locate the AV Public folder.When transferring files, create a new folder with your last name or a unique job name in AV Public. Copy and paste your files into the folder. Since this is only a temporary storage site, information will be deleted weekly.
FTP (Fileransfer Protocol)
The College of Optometry runs an Anonymous login FTP server (file transfer protocol) which can be accessed via an FTP client, such as WS_FTP; or Telnet. (For Mac users: Fetch, Vicom, and Anarchie). The address for the server is: ftp.opt.uh.eduSince FTP servers have a tendency to be taken advantage of, access to this FTP server is very limited and should only be used as a last resort. Please contact the AV Department prior to using this FTP server for more detailed instructions and availability. Once connected to the FTP server you will see two folders. One is titled Downloads and the other is titled Uploads. This process is quite simple. If we have placed a file for you to download, it will be accessible in the Downloads folder. If you are trying to send a file to us, you should put it in the Uploads folder. (Note: you will not have access to the Uploads folder other than dropping files into that folder)
Files can be emailed to the Audio Visual Dept. at: av_department@popmail.opt.uh.edu. One word of caution, due to the mail server and a few crashes in the past, items should remain under 2Mb. anything larger can be broken up and is very difficult to put together again
Disk
- The AV Dept. supports several
large volume transportable disk types including the following:
Zip 100 mb and 250 mb;
1.44 Floppy Disk;
3.5 inch Super Disk;
CD-Rom (650Mb and 700mb);
CDRW Rewriteable Cd’s using Adaptec Direct CD
DVD's
Type I and Type II Compact Flash cards - The AV Dept. can't produce a drive for every type of disk.However, if we are told in advance that a certain type of disk is coming, we can generally prepare for it and work out some method of accessing the data.
Notes: If you are transferring information to us using the AV Public folder through the Borish server or the FTP site, you must notify us that you have placed files there and include a Production Request Form. You can get a copy of this form on line here.
A simple email to av_department@mail-gw.opt.uh.edu stating your name, department, where the files are located, the name of the files, and any other relative information is all that is needed.
Please
remember the the AV Public Folder and FTP site are cleaned of files once a week.
